Breakfast

I usually dream in the early morning--at least the early morning dreams are the ones I remember. Today was no different. I dreamed that I had baked blueberry muffins, but had forgotten to put in the blueberries. How domestic. Quite a difference from the end--of-world dreams I usually have. What do you think that means? That I feel like I've left something out of my life? Something necessary...something essential?

I don't know, but when I woke up, I took a sub-conscious cue from myself and baked some blueberry muffins to have with our coffee. I took special care to spoon the blueberries into the batter--the last step before pouring it into the heart-shaped muffin pan. It was my son's first muffin ever--his eyes lit up when he saw me come around the corner with the platter in hand, delivering it up to the two boys, who were still watching "Clifford, the Big Red Dog" in bed. We had three muffins left over after breakfast, so I put them onto a plate with a white doily, wrapped them up in parchment paper, and enlisted my husband to take them to our neighbors. What a great beginning to a day.
