Autumnal Equinox

Today marks the official beginning of fall, so I thought the painting of a few sugar cookies might be in order. Think little orange-iced pumpkins, ghosties, and cats with backs arched in surprise as they harden on my cookie sheets.

I also had a hankering for sushi, which is a real rarity. (I played it safe with vegetable rolls with brown rice and avacado rolls wrapped in rice paper.) It was nice to just have vegetables and no meat for a change...it just felt clean. My meat-and-potatoes upbringing is now reeling and recoiling at me for saying so.

I'm changing. I'm breaking gradually away from what's previously held me back...this internal map of my own creation that is so obviously, so blatantly, WRONG. Wrong, but comfortable, and familiar, and safe. But still WRONG. Growth hurts. But growing pains are better than stagnant comfort any day. So bring on the meditating, the 4 a.m. walks, the self-help books that look a lot like mid-life crisis to the occasional passerby. I recently asked for the location of a book I wanted at the Barnes and Noble, and the clerk said (to my surprise), "Oh, that would be over in the New Age section..." I said, "No...it couldn't be."

I read something today that I liked, and I'll leave you with it..."Ships are safe in harbor, but that's not what ships are for..." Good night, ya'll, and happy fall.

Change is GOOD. I, too, am trying to change some of the things that are holding me back. We must talk more.

Also, yummy cookies!

I hear you, Searcher.

Ships in the harbor look out past the waves.

Here's to good skies and friendly wind,
