At Home with Southern Girl

I woke up this morning around five just to listen to the quiet of the house. I grabbed the Big Fuzzy robe and padded my steps, ever so cautiously, to the kitchen. While coffee brewed, I busied myself with the dishes and counter clutter, and by the time I was ready for my first cup, I was able to also enjoy a clean kitchen and room to move.

Although there was still no sunlight, I lifted the blinds expectantly above my desk in the library. The street lights in my neighborhood are a light amber color, and I always appreciate being able to stare into their little orange clouds of light in the late nights and early mornings when I'm trying to think. They stand guard in front of my house like sentinels, reassuring and luminous.

At first a weak grey in the sky began to emerge, and then all at once, a burst of yellow came pouring into the eastern windows of the living room...I tried to capture the light with my pictures, but I don't know if I'll ever do Her justice.

Abundance...I'm so grateful.

This is the new library where all of my blog posts now originate. To the left, an artwork I've named "Delphinia." :)

My nice coffee pot hasn't been used in so long...maybe I should invite a friend?

The single bloom I picked to deliver to the Husband with his Valentine.

Don't mind the dust on the piano...it doesn't get played (or dusted) very often.

Notice the little rings of dust around the piano bench? I've finally cleared out the last of the items I had placed there last week to ask the ever-goading question...to Goodwill or not to Goodwill?

My surprise red Valentine's pillow from the darling-of-all darlings blogsister, Keetha from over at Write Kudzu.

And the sun shines through...this is the statue that the hound dog wouldn't stop barking at the whole first night I put her by that window. :) Any thoughts on a name for her...she's still in want of one...

Well, I would go with "Regina," but perhaps that's too simple. I like the name Surya. Sun Goddess. Beautiful. I'd vote for that one. Jeanne in Oregon, and yes, your house is lovely. You should be a decorator! What am I saying? You are!

I want to be your next door neighbor just so I can invite you over for coffee, or invite myself over, or have you decorate my house. Question: can we have that first cup sometime after 9am? That's about what time the sun rises for me.

Suzanne, I think you'd be the perfect person to have coffee with! I'll even be extra quiet if you get a sudden inspiration to write. :)

Well, isn't that Hera? Which is perfect for you (despite the occasional justifiable wifely rage) as she is the goddess of marriage and young mothers and childbirth... just sayin'.
WOW, this post is a wonderful wonderful treasure trove for the eyes. Your home is indeed beautiful, a reflection of the inhabitants, I dare say. And speaking of coffee...
we should do it.
