A Movie Alone

Yesterday I was given the rare pleasure of seeing a movie--ALONE. IN A THEATER. REALLY. Since I had my son, I haven't really been able to make it to the theater much, and I expressed my (dire) interest just to be dropped off and picked up at some random movie for some "just me" time. I didn't have a particular film in mind, but the idea of being alone for two hours without being guilted into cleaning the house appealed to me very much.

I chose a particularly girly Lake House because I knew that it was one that wouldn't break my husband's heart if he missed it. Not to mention that it symbolizes everything that a girl (at least this girl) wants: a magical correspondence, brief mentions of Jane Austen and Dostoevsky novels, and no denial of a happy ending. Just to be there in the dark on a Wednesday night was enough to draw the bit from my mouth a little. I only felt a twinge of regret about being by myself when the two friends ahead of me got tickets for Lake House, too. "Will you two be my friends?" I secretly wanted to ask. "No, that's weird," chimed my inner sensor. They ended up being the only other people in the theater. So they were kind of like my friends.

I ordered no buttered popcorn or large diet cokes. I felt I truly needed no other refreshment. (Plus, I had no more money after I shelled out $8 for the movie.)

NO BUTTERED POPCORN!!!??? : ) I'm glad you had a night to yourself! Did you see The Devil Wears Prada yet?

Not yet! Next on my list, though.

The Lake House was sweet :) You need to see Scoop! Funny and smart. I also recommend An Unfinished Life as a good rental. Don't worry that it stars J-Lo -- Robert Redford and Morgan Freeman more than make up for it. And the bear! The bear is great.

I did see _An Unfinished Life_, and there hasn't been a day since that I haven't thought about it at least once. I loved it. I've never heard of Scoop?
