The Cracker Queen Herself...Lauretta Hannon at the Cracker Queen Porch Party

A girl and her mama...Lauretta really knows how to laugh. She laughs with her whole self. And when she laughs like that, she makes me laugh that way, too.

Visit her here...

A girl, her mama, and the mayor of Powder Springs, Pat Vaughn...

How long has it been since you had an RC Cola? A royal crown--how appropriate for the occasion.

Yes, he's peeling a switch with a pocketknife for a misbehaving youngin'...you just don't get to see this everyday...I wish I did.

"She did WHAT? Well, bless her heart..."

The Indian Princess

When I finished reading Lauretta Hannon's The Cracker Queen, I was in a hotel in Charleston, watching my little one sleep. I think so many in the South are attracted to this book because she's telling our story. Southern people with high hopes and mitigating circumstances--isn't that what it always comes down to? Watching your people try so hard and almost win...and end up happy anyway. I had the pleasure of sharing tales with Loretta at the Right Wing Tavern in Woodstock, and I heard about the Cracker Queen shenanigans from Athens, Georgia, to Amsterdam. We've both had the pleasure of the seeing the world and then coming back home, which, in a lifetime, is all you can really ask for.

Cute post. RC Cola used to be my favorite. It's been years since I've tasted one.

I liked Dr Pepper as a kid but RCs? They were fo' shizzle.

Thanks for sharing but (whispers conspiratorially) I have yet to read The Cracker Queen. I think I am going to have to break down and do it. Your blog makes her seem like a gal you could pal around with.

Missed her when she showed in Athens. Shoot!
